One of lignosulfonate famous property is binder is used in a wide range of applications. Lignosulfonates is a brown amorphous powder are the salts of lignosulfonic acid which is formed as a by-product when wood pulp is treated by the sulphite method during the manufacturing of paper.When such lignosulfonate become wet its binding capacity will exhibit.Meanwhile a lot of industries has some fines is different to cope with,lignosulfonate could bind them into larger part to take full use of them.

Coal Briquettes or refinery coke binder

In coal industry and refinery coke ,there always a lot of powder hard to handle,if put them directly into use lower heating energy ,Lignosulfonate could help to bind them into regular size  convert the powder into large easy to use.

Usually we mix some water and 3-5% of lignosulfonate of the total mixture the end product moisture is control less than 7%.

Dust suppressants(Dust control agent)and surface stabilizer

Lignosulfonate could work as effective dust control agent and surface stabilizer .As e all know lignin has strong ability to bind cellulose and fiber to increase tree firmness.So this feature could be much more environment-friendly and economic choice compared with other petroleum based products.

Lignosulfonate binds the road dust surface particle,when evaporate it will become the high-viscosity, naturally sticky material traps dust particles,then after sun heat will make a water resistant durable dust control surface.

Thus Lignosulfonate is naturally an adhesive, working as a binding agent  in pellets or compressed materials. Also could used in Plywood & particle board,Fertilizers , casting and so on.

Ceramics binder

Lignosulfonate has different compositions and molecular dimensions (because they are polymers that can be modified by the addition of organic or inorganic groups to the molecule). They are anionic derivatives of lignin, water soluble and surfactants. Lignosulfonates can increase mechanical green and dry strength in ceramic pieces. Also, they work as lubricants during extrusion or pressing . Additions of lignosulfonates to ceramic slips can vary from 0.1 to 2.0% and they are relatively inexpensive. For pressed tiles, 1% lignosulfonate can double mechanical strength (however often a black core appears). Lignosulfonates are often used to reduce shrinkage yet maintain after-forming mechanical strength (because reduced amounts of plastic clays are needed).

Carbon black

 Lignosulfonate can be applied as a binder for pyrolysis carbon black according to several patents. Lignosulfonate binders also give pellets their strength through solid type interactions (although to a less extent than starch) but also the interactions of the charged acid groups with the surface play a large role. These surface interactions could lead to stronger pellets but also might cause some problems if the surface morphology of the pyrolysis carbon black is not compatible. Nonetheless lignosulfonates present a cheap and promising option.

Lignosulfonate could work as naturally binder as its original form of lignin to bind the cellulose and fiber,so it can be used binding agent in pellets or compressed materials,also could used as dust control agent,which will be much more environment friendly and lower cost compared with Chloride.

Petroleum industry:

In this area, sodium lignosulphonate is used as a flotation agent and reagent for regulating of the basic parametres of mud flushes.They are also acomponents of gel forming systerms.Gel forming leads to redistribution of fitration flows and their better regulation.Technical lignosulphonate are used for hardening of different construction types:drill well moon pool,holes,and in mine rals industry.

Building materials production:

Sodium lignosulphonate can be used in producing plates because of its astringent,sticking and surface active propertities.Because this kind of production is very expensive ,toxic,carbamide are used,mixture of  modified lignosulphonate with loam can get combined binder.Meanwhile the toxi cation of the plates can be reduced up to 50%.And in the producing of mineral-cotton plates,the products can become more firm and water-proof.

Drilling industry:

Sodium lignosulphonate can be used as a flotation reagent in minerals industry to achieve incomplete washing of separating materials. They are used for drilling well moon pool hardening and be added in different ground based in different ground bases and carpets. Sodium lignosulphonate can emulsify bituminous materials,liquid bituminous materials or coal tars,thus constructions are strengthened.

Crack filling composition involving quaternary ammonium salt, aliphatic amine,ammonium lignosulphonate , imidazoline, and amide.

• Water stability of an asphalt mixture can be improved by

adding 0.3% lignosulphonate fibers.

• Asphalt‐emulsifying agent containing SW sodium lignosulphonate  with

an av. mol. wt. of 200‐100,000 (sodium  lignosulfonate ,and the lignosulphonate is that broad‐leaf pine or needle‐leaf pine) has the proper HLB value, slow

demulsification speed, proper frothing ability, and strong foam stability.

• Ammonium Lignosulphonate  additive has been shown to provide a warm mix additive

that can modify the combination state of asphalt and stone material surface;

modifying the fluidity; and decrease production cost of the asphalt mixtures.
